A male Superb Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus) not in his breeding colors. One cool little fellow, he moved along the outside vegetation hunting for insects, all the time keeping a close eye on me and in constant contact with his partner through beautiful song. Greenwood Lakes, Forestdale, Queensland, Australia. NIKON D500 + Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 1/640 @ f/7.1 ISO 900 @ 750 mm (effective FL)

This male Olive-Backed Sunbird has been a frequent visitor to my backyard here in the Southern suburbs of Cairns. On this visit he land only a few metres from me and in clear view of my camera. He was not put off by my presence and started to dance about showing off his dazzling plumage. Of all the pics I took, this was the standout for me. He turned very slightly into the morning light and his blue breast plumage totally lit up. Image was captured on a Canon 5d MK III with Canon 70-200mm L series II f/2.8 lens and Canon 1.4x extender. Settings were 1/800 sec. @f/5.6; f/l 280 mm and ISO 1000.
