Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) – my first sighting of this highly-patterned bird (lifer # 187). I was actually lucky to see it, as I was sitting down waiting for a Forest Kingfisher to return to the area. This bird poked its head out of some reeds, I recognised it was a new species, moved slightly and it went back into the reeds. I laid down and waited for about 10 minutes until it finally came back out, this time I was able to snap a few shots. It certainly knew I was there, but kept its distance and a wary eye on me as it searched for food. Lake Eden, North Lakes, Queensland, Australia.
